Halina Andre Founder Story
Halina Pradzynski, arguably the first person to introduce European methods of skin care to the southern United States through her salon and spa. Her early life was marked by significant challenges during World War II. At just 16, Halina became involved in the resistance movement against the occupying forces. Her husband, Andrzej, was imprisoned in a concentration camp, while Halina supported the resistance by distributing underground newspapers and providing secret education. Though Halina and Andrzej were a couple in high school, their reunion and marriage came only after they had both endured the immense hardships of the war.
Post war, Halina’s passion for skincare led her to study cosmetology in Warsaw. Followed by advanced training at the prestigious Helena Rubinstein Beauty Institute in Paris. There, she forged a friendship with Madame Rubinstein, gaining insights that shaped her philosophy of science-based, personalized skincare. Halina’s approach emphasized nurturing the skin’s natural health rather than concealing imperfections, a belief she carried with her throughout her career.
In the meantime, Andrzej pursued advanced studies in chemistry, culminating in a doctorate that laid the groundwork for his future contributions to skincare science. He initially worked at the Polish Academy of Sciences before accepting a research position at the University of Texas at Austin. This opportunity prompted Halina and Andrzej to emigrate to the United States.
Initially, Halina was uncertain about the American beauty landscape. She undertook an intensive English course and researched the U.S. salon industry. To learn more about American salon operation, Halina travelled to New York City and met with Helena Rubinstein’s daughter, who was in charge of the Rubinstein company at the time. On the same trip, Halina also went to observe at Elizabeth Arden’s salon. The journey granted her confidence to open her own establishment in Austin, Texas. In 1970, Halina European Skin Care was founded, quickly gaining recognition for its European-inspired skincare techniques.
The success of her salon paved the way for Halina to launch her own skincare line, Halina Andre, in 1974. Combining her expertise with Andrzej’s chemistry background, the brand was rooted in natural ingredients and scientific research. Today, Halina Andre skincare products are available nationwide in the United States, continuing to support esthetic professionals in addressing their clients' beauty needs.
